Welcome to Santiago de Compostela, a city that seamlessly blends history, culture and scholarly tradition. The 2026 ESSE Conference will be held on the North Campus of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), with the Faculty of Philology serving as the central hub of the event. Located just steps away from the Faculty of Communication Sciences and the renowned Auditorio de Galicia, the venue offers a dynamic setting that reflects the spirit of knowledge and cultural exchange.


The Faculty of Philology is just a kilometre away on foot from Santiago’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned as the endpoint of the Camino de Santiago. This short and pleasant walk leads to a historic setting where you can wander through narrow cobblestone streets, admire impressive medieval architecture, and soak in a vibrant atmosphere steeped in tradition. This unique environment invites participants to complement their academic activities with opportunities for exploration and discovery.


Attendees will find the venue easy to navigate, with clear signage and maps available to guide you. We invite you to explore the campus’s green spaces, which offer a tranquil retreat from the bustling energy of the historic centre. DISTANCE FROM VENUE TO:

  • Santiago de Compostela-Rosalía de Castro Airport: 13 km (bus 6A will take you directly to the train/coach station)
  • Train and coach station: 3.1 km (45 minutes on foot; alternatively, buses C4 and C2 will take you to the Faculty of Philology in approximately 20 minutes)
  • Cathedral (Praza do Obradoiro): 1.3 km (approx. 18 minutes on foot)
  • Hostal dos Reis Católicos: 1.3 km (approx. 18 minutes on foot)
  • Alameda Park: 1.7 km (approx. 25 minutes on foot)
  • Praza de Galicia: 1.8 km (approx. 26 on foot)
  • Pazo de San Lourenzo: 2.1 km (28 minutes on foot)

There are several catering options at or next to the venue, all of which offer a wide range of hot meals, sandwiches and snacks at affordable prices:

  • Faculty of Philology – Cafeteria (venue building). The cafeteria serves two-course menus for €8.50 (dessert and drinks included), as well as hot meals, sandwiches and snacks.
  • Faculty of Communication – Cafeteria (next to the venue building). The cafeteria serves two-course menus for €8.50 (dessert and drinks included), as well as hot meals, sandwiches and snacks.
  • Burgo das Nacións – Cafeteria (next to the venue building). The cafeteria serves two-course menus for €8.50 (dessert and drinks included), as well as hot meals, sandwiches and snacks.
  • Big Bar Theory (next to the venue building). This bar offers mostly burgers, sandwiches, wraps, nuggets and salads.
  • Auditorio de Galicia (700 m from the venue building). This restaurant offers a buffet lunch (two-course menu with dessert for €14.50), as well as sandwiches and salads.
  • NH Obradoiro Hotel – Restaurant (750 m from the venue building). This restaurant offers more elaborate dishes for those who prefer to eat à la carte.
